Helping Gen-Z to Reclaim Our Truths

My piece is called "The Z-Generation" and it is a collection of hand-printed stickers. The graphics combine tarot card design/meaning with some characteristics and beliefs I feel strongly align with gen-z. I wanted to take these characteristics our generation is often criticized for--being too PC, too sensitive, too depressed, too spoiled--and create pieces we could use to reclaim their, and our own, power.

The goal of sending them out was both to help us connect in this time of separation, but also to give people the chance to have their own story, add their own meaning, with the stickers. I created an Instagram for this project where people can share their connection to the work and maybe even their stickers' new "homes." There is so much diversity in this community and everyone understands their experience as a Gen-Zer, or just person in this time, differently. For that reason I wanted you the viewer, to make your own conclusions. I did not want to tell you what to think.

To that end, I also wanted to work to be trans-generational. I didn't want it to exclude. In the last couple of years, I have seen us divide and I did not want to contribute to that. So yes, the work is targeted and named after gen-z but I believe that the power of the work's message, of the beliefs it stands for, unites us all regardless of birth year.
